Hail, Caesar! star Alden Ehrenreich will take the title role as the captain of the Millennium Falcon spaceship, the character originally played by Harrison Ford. Donald Glover will co-star as Han’s friend Lando Calrissian, while Woody Harrelson, Game of Thrones‘s Emilia Clarke and Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge will appear in supporting roles
Howard only joined the production in June, after its original directors – Lego Movie team Phil Lord and Chris Miller – left citing “creative differences” with father-son screenwriting duo Lawrence and Jon Kasdan.
Another sign of behind-the-scenes turbulence came in August, when it was announced that Emmy nominee Michael K Williams – previously set to play a central character – had been completely cut out of the film.
Solo is to be the second spin-off to the main Star Wars film franchise, following last year’s critical hit Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
